Kansas vs Purdue
Kansas: Contain Caleb Swanigan, their big men can NOT get into foul trouble. Use their athleticism, Purdue has struggled with athleticism this year. Need to get contributions from guys not named Mason, Graham and Jackson, those three combined for 61 of their 90 points against Michigan State.
Purdue: Their guards must be sound with the ball, Kansas has the athletes to pressure with Mason, Graham and Jackson. Get Kansas into foul trouble, not a very deep team the Jayhawks. Prediction: Purdue is better than we think, but Kansas wins 79-72
Oregon vs Michigan
Oregon: Prevent Derrick Walton from getting into the lane consistently. Dillon Brooks needs to shoot it better (7-22 against Rhode Island). Get to the basket offensively. Jordan Bell can’t get into foul trouble.
Michigan: Keep doing what they are doing, do not get off track especially offensively. Contain the one-on-one abilities of the Oregon guards. Take advantage of the lack of size of the Ducks. Prediction: Give me the Ducks, Michigan has had some struggles so far keeping guards in front of them and Oregon has good perimeter players, 79-77.
North Carolina vs Butler
North Carolina: Run whenever possible, get Butler into a track meet. Joel Berry has to play better, the Heels are so much better on both ends when he is playing well. Contain Kelan Martin. Must play consistent for 40 minutes, can’t afford to get lazy against Butler.
Butler: Slow the game down, and go inside. North Carolina has big men, but I don’t think they have true “rim protectors”. Tyler Lewis and Kamar Baldwin have to control the game and make good decisions with the ball. Prediction: UNC, 83-74
UCLA vs Kentucky
UCLA: Get points in the paint, they were really successful in that area when these two teams played in December. Keep track of Malik Monk at ALL times. Establish T.J. Leaf, he is a real match-up problem for the Cats’.
Kentucky: De’Aaron Fox has to be great on both ends. Find someone who can guard T.J. Leaf. Avoid taking a bunch of bad shots. Isaiah Briscoe has to be a bit more aggressive on offense I believe (only took three shots against Wichita State) Prediction: Give me UCLA, even though I don’t think the game will be as high-scoring like their first meeting in December, 81-78.
