Do the Rockets Have What It Takes To Be NBA Champions?
The Rockets are having a great season this year. At 41-19, they’re one of the best teams in the NBA. They’re ranked fourth in the West (which is an accomplishment in its own right seeing as how tough the West is), but do they really have a chance win the NBA championship? Can they win a playoff series against a San Antonio or an Oklahoma Thunder team?
I believe the answer to that question lies in how well their star players perform in the playoffs. Both (James Harden and Dwight Howard) are having a great year and they’ll have to keep up that intensity going into the playoffs. If Houston is to get past the first or second round, then Harden won’t be able to have his lapses in defensive intensity. Several times throughout the season, Harden just seemed like he wasn’t really interested in playing defense. Just Google “Harden no defense” to see what I mean. He’s a great offensive threat, but he’s going to have to up his game defensively if the Rockets are going to have a chance to win. On the other hand, Dwight Howard is going to have to make his free throws. If both players can fix these problems come playoff time, then the Rockets will have good chance to make it deep into the playoffs.
